Rolls-Royce confirms Phantom special edition for centenary

Eighth-generation flagship is basis for Goodwood’s latest project, 25 examples of which will be built

Rolls-Royce will unveil a 25-unit Phantom special to 100 years after the nameplate debuted in 1925. Dubbed an “exclusive Private Collection,” it’s built on the current twin-turbo V12 eighth-generation model launched in 2018.

Full details arrive soon, but the centenary car introduces three brand-first techniques: 3D marquetry, 3D ink layering and 24-carat gold leafing. These combine on interior panels to create what Rolls-Royce calls its most intricate woodwork ever.

Development took one year and required special staff training to master the processes. Each panel becomes a tactile sculpture, pushing wood and gold to their natural limits.

Bespoke chief Phil Fabre de la Grange: “We’ve fused 3D techniques with gilding into single surfaces—unlocking new heights in Rolls-Royce craftsmanship.”
